Classical music is considered to be a more serious genre of music. Its uniqueness is due to the intricacy of musical style and its employment of harmonized polyphony. It sprung around the 18th- 19th century, and a German, Johann Sebastian Bach, is regarded as the father of western classical music. Hans Abrahamsen and Kaija Saariaho are two famous contemporary classical music composers.

Hans Abrahamsen is a Danish composer who first published one of his works at sixteen. He studied music at the Royal Danish Conservatory, and he has composed over 29 pieces, including chamber pieces, large ensembles, and operas. One of his most famous works is titled Let Me Tell You, which was based on a novel of the same title by Barbara Hannigan. This piece got a lot of praise and positive reviews.

Kaija Saariaho is a Finnish composer born in October 1952. She studied at Sibelius Academy and furthered her studies at Freiburg. She also spent some time at the institute for research and coordination in acoustics/music (IRCAM), Paris, which positively influenced her music style. She has over a hundred works (including solo works, orchestra pieces, dance, and even electronic music). She is famously known for Graal theatre, a concerto for violin and orchestra, and also Verblendungen, an electroacoustic composition, amongst many others.
